What is it?: The Jinhua Homestay programme is an excellent opportunity for students to stay with a Chinese family in a village in China, and learn about Chinese traditional culture and witness the beauty of historical architecture.
This is also a project, and is the first stage in a plan to attract tourists from all over the world interested in travelling to historical villages, and to introduce Jinhua’s villages to an international audience.
So the participants can contribute by being a part of the publicity group/ e-commerce group/ products design group/ painting group/ landscape-design group.
When is it? : 10th August to 30th August 2018 ; Application Deadline: May 2018
Experiences of students from The Oriental Dialogue: In the last 3 years since this project started, more than 20 students of The Oriental Dialogue have participated in this Homestay Programme.
Student Experience: Shravan Rangarajan: “Who would have thought? For three wonderful weeks, I had Chinese parents, a German roommate, partied with Laotians, wrote about ancient Chinese architecture with a Romanian, shared a beer with a South African, sang Azurro with Italians, cheered a Cameroonian dancing to Waka Waka, practiced Portuguese with a person from Mozambique, got my caricature done by a very talented American, had engrossing conversations on long bus rides with a dashing German, met the most camera shy photographer in China, and made friends with people from all over the world, all in a little Chinese village!! Siping was my home away from home, and the experiences there are unforgettable.”

Welcome to learn more about Chinese culture, Jinhua, and Jinhua’s historical villages.
Located in the middle of Zhejiang Province, the north of Jinhua City, Pujiang County covers an area of 920 square kilometers with a registered population of 390,000 in total. Established in 195 AD, Pujiang enjoys a history of more than 1,800 years.
Pujiang, reputed as “Home of Culture”, “Home of Chinese Painting and Calligraphy” and “Home of Chinese Poetry”, is famous for its profound and brilliant culture. It owns the site of Shangshan Culture which enjoys a history of ten thousand years and the Zheng Family founded thousand years ago. Pujiang is a place where Chinese painting and calligraphy has been flourishing for hundreds of years, and it is also one of the oldest origins of the world rice culture, one of the important sites of China’s Confucian family culture as well as a cultural center of Chinese painting and calligraphy. Pujiang has more than 250 calligraphers and painters according to the history record, and also has 6 national intangible cultural heritages among which is a world intangible cultural heritage protection project, ranking among the best at national county level.
